What to do?

I have hit a decision point in my Current Project – Its a beautiful day in this neighborhood.  I planned to do 10 digital paintings. Frankenstein Castle was number 9. I have one more painting to do, but I might do 2 or 3 more because 3 of the 9 are a triptych. That means I have 9 paintings, but only 7 different scenes. That means I should really do 3 more scenes.

So, I have a decision to make. Should I do 1 or 3 more paintings? I want to wrap up this series ASAP. I am also releasing 13 of my original Alaska travel paintings in a”mini poster” format on September 30th.

I think I know the answer as I write this, but if anyone has a comment I will gladly entertain it.

Alaska – Digitally remastered?

Mini Travel Posters – Pre-release:

Seattle – Embarkation point for cruises to Alaska. You won’t see this view for another week for most cruise lines. I have re-worked 13 of my original Alaska travel paintings into a “mini poster” format.  Release date for the series is September 30th.

What’s with the purple tree?

Looking East from my attic window, over the rooftops of Hochspeyer to the edge of the state forest beyond. Hochspeyer is surrounded by the northern end of the Naturpark Pfälzer Wald (Nature Park Rhineland-Palatinate Forest). I do not have a clue about the purple tree. A nice couple lives across the street and I will ask them about their tree as soon as I speak German a little better.

New white background and small paintings waiting to grow up …

but first, New colors. New media. New studio.

Colors: I love black as a background color, but… I am trying on white for awhile, ugh. It is a bit more readable, and reading online is difficult compared to paper. Trust me, I’ve done the research. I still prefer black frames for my paintings, so I will continue to frame them with black.

Media: I am making more of an effort to draw on my iPad. It’s quite handy and goes almost everywhere I go. I use Sketchbook Pro and I draw with a Boxwave stylus. The software will take some getting used to, but I am learning to adapt it to my style.

Studio: I have enough room in my new apartment for a studio! That is unless I decide to get a roommate. It will take awhile to gear up for studio paintings as most of my supplies and equipment are still in the States, but there are things I can do in the meantime. I have lots of small sketches and paintings from my travels that are waiting to “grow up”.

Refreshed by a dirt road

Going nuts with work. Grab sketch gear. Grab water. Drive to end of earth.

Okay, maybe not THE end, but close enough. I found a dirt road that was suitable only for my jeep:  Rocks, very narrow in places with occasional steep drop offs to one side of the jeep or the other. Cool. It’s been too long since my jeep and I have enjoyed the solitude of a remote trail. There were not any recent tire tracks from other vehicles. Nice. It was scenic, but not dramatically pretty. The road is used by the Forest Service to fight fires and by the power company to service large power transmission towers. There were also signs of bird hunting (spent shotgun shells). Still, it was quiet and off the beaten path. My jeep thanked me for getting it off pavement. I drew its portrait, then drove home, refreshed.

FYI:  That’s Superstition Mountains and Weaver’s Needle in the distance.

Happy Trails
